How these quizzes are researched and built

14 questions/~4 min/1 takes

This quiz looks at the familiar Type A and Type B idea as a pop psychology spectrum, not a clinical category or diagnosis. Think of it as entertainment with a useful mirror: a quick way to notice how you handle deadlines, waiting, competition, rest, criticism, and pressure. Most people are not one note. You may be driven in one setting, relaxed in another, and sensitive when the stakes feel personal. Pick what sounds most like your usual pattern, not your perfect-day version.

Sample questions:

  1. A deadline moves up by two days. Your first instinct is to...
  2. You're stuck in a slow line when you have somewhere to be. You...
  3. A friendly game turns unexpectedly competitive. You tend to...

Frequently asked

Is Type A or Type B a real scientific category?
Not in a clinical sense, and this quiz treats it that way. The idea came from two cardiologists, Meyer Friedman and Ray Rosenman, in the 1950s, who noticed a hard-driving, time-pressured pattern in some of their heart patients. The research since then is mixed and the original link to heart disease has not held up cleanly. So we use Type A and Type B here as a pop psychology spectrum for noticing your pace and pressure habits, not as a diagnosis or a health verdict. Take the result as an entertaining, useful mirror, nothing more.
Why does the quiz have a Type D as well?
Because the usual A-versus-B split leaves out a real and common pattern. Alongside Type A the driver, Type B the relaxed one, and Type A/B the balanced blend, the fourteen questions can land you on Type D: sensitive, inward, and careful with pressure and exposure. Where a Type A tightens up in a slow line and a Type B shrugs it off, a Type D tends to go quiet and feel the situation more privately. It is not a worse result, just a fuller map than the two-box version most quizzes stop at.
Can I be both Type A and Type B?
Yes, and most people have some of both. The four results are points along a spectrum, not sealed boxes, which is exactly why Type A/B exists as its own outcome. You might be intensely Type A about work deadlines and thoroughly Type B on a Sunday, or driven in public and relaxed at home. The quiz asks you to answer for your usual pattern, not your best or worst day, and the result names where you sit most of the time. Feeling half-described by two of the types is normal, not a sign you took it wrong.
Is it bad or unhealthy to be Type A?
No type is good or bad, they are trade-offs, and this quiz makes no health claims either way. Type A drive fuels achievement but can tip into constant urgency and trouble switching off. Type B calm protects your peace but can read as low urgency when the stakes are high. Type D sensitivity brings real depth of feeling but can turn inward under strain. The healthiest move is usually not to swap types but to keep your strength while managing its cost. For anything to do with your actual health or stress levels, talk to a doctor, not a quiz.
How is this different from the how you handle stress quiz?
They overlap but answer different questions. This one places you on the broad Type A to Type B spectrum of drive and pace across everyday life: deadlines, waiting, competition, rest, and criticism. The how you handle stress quiz zooms in on a single moment, what you actually do when the pressure spikes, and sorts you into a coping style like Fixer, Feeler, Retreater, or Powerer. Think of Type A/B as your general temperament and your stress style as the specific move you make when things get hard. Taking both gives you the wide read and the close-up.
